16 Engineers. 16 Puzzle Pieces. One EPIC Masterpiece.
Picture this: It's a sunny September afternoon in Carlsbad. Inside ClarkDietrich Engineering Services' office, 18 engineers—people who spend their days calculating loads, designing structures, and solving complex problems—are about to do something completely different.
They're about to become artists. 🎨✨
It Started With a Dream (and an Email)
Back in July, Tammy, ClarkDietrich's General Manager, had an idea brewing. She was tired of the same old team-building activities. Trust falls? Been there. Escape rooms? Done that. She wanted something that would actually bring her team together AND create something beautiful for their office.
So she reached out to Art Magic Studio with a simple message:
"I love the idea of creating a collective big piece. Thinking maybe a couple of them for our office."
And just like that, the magic began. ✨

The Big Idea: A 5-Foot Logo Puzzle?! 🤯
The Art Magic team didn't just suggest another cookie-cutter workshop. Nope. They came back with something BOLD:
"What if we turned your company logo into a GIANT 5-foot wooden puzzle, and every single person on your team decorates their own piece with fluid art?"
Tammy's response? "Looks great, thank you!!"
Translation: LET'S DO THIS! 🚀
The Planning: Making Magic Happen
For six weeks, the Art Magic team worked behind the scenes:
🎨 Custom-designed a 5-foot wooden puzzle shaped like the ClarkDietrich logo
🎨 Split it into 16 perfect pieces
🎨 Chose a color palette that matched their brand
🎨 Coordinated every tiny detail—from parking spots to table layouts
Meanwhile, Tammy was rallying the troops. "We're doing WHAT?!" her team probably said. But she knew this was going to be something special.
Plot Twist: 16 Became 18! 🎉
The morning of the event, Tammy sent an update:
"Note we will have 18 people. Two ended up being here who I didn't think would."
No problem! The Art Magic team adjusted on the fly. More people = more creativity = MORE FUN! Some team members would just share pieces or create extras. Easy peasy.
Game Day: September 17th, 3:00 PM
2:20 PM – Art Magic arrives. The team jumps out like a creative SWAT team, armed with:
Plastic tablecloths (because fluid art gets MESSY)
Buckets of vibrant pigments
16 wooden puzzle pieces
Gloves, aprons, and ALL the supplies
Pure excitement 💥
2:30 PM – Tables are set up. Puzzle pieces are arranged. The stage is set for something AMAZING.
3:00 PM – HERE WE GO! 🎨
The Transformation Begins
Imagine the scene:
Engineers who normally work with blueprints and calculations are suddenly pouring vibrant blues, silvers, and whites onto wooden puzzle pieces. Colors swirl and blend in ways that can't be predicted or controlled—and that's the POINT.
"Wait, I just tilt it and the paint moves?!"
"This is SO cool!"
"Can I add more sparkle?!"
YES. YES YOU CAN. ✨
For 90 minutes, the ClarkDietrich office transformed into an art studio. Laughter filled the room. Coworkers who usually discuss engineering specs were now comparing color combinations and cheering each other on.

The Best Part? Every Piece Was Different
That's the beauty of fluid art—no two pieces look the same.
Some puzzle pieces had bold, dramatic swirls. Others had delicate, flowing patterns. Some were wild and chaotic. Others were calm and zen.
But here's the thing: When they all come together, they create something INCREDIBLE.
Just like the team itself. 🙌
Why This Was More Than Just "Team Building"
Sure, they could've done another Zoom happy hour or ordered pizza for lunch. But THIS?
This was different.
✨ They created something TOGETHER – A literal puzzle where every piece mattered
✨ They got out of their heads – No spreadsheets, no calculations, just pure creativity
✨ They made something PERMANENT – A 5-foot reminder hanging in their office that says "WE DID THAT"
✨ They had FUN – Like, actual, genuine, "I can't believe we just did that" fun

The Real Magic? It's Not Just About the Art
When Tammy first reached out in July, she wanted "a couple of pieces for our office."
What she got was so much more:
🎨 A shared experience her team will talk about for YEARS
🎨 A conversation starter for every client who walks into their office
🎨 A reminder that even engineers can be artists
🎨 Proof that the best teams are built through shared creativity
From Email to Epic: The Journey
